Remember how, a few Fridays back, I was singing the praises of Tim Gunn's new show and lamenting the loss of my favorite Trish McEvoy lip gloss (the one that fell in that nasty puddle years ago, never to be replaced)?
GUESS WHO sent me an email a few days later??? Trish McEvoy! The other Trish (or T-McE as I'll be calling her now) sent ME an email, offering to send me my favorite lip gloss if I could remember the color! I was, to put it mildly, flabbergasted (as you can see by my extravagant use of italics in this post).
And then (as if I wasn't wowed enough) the Fed Ex guy showed up on Saturday morning with a priority package for me. (This touch seemed even more remarkable in light of the fact that I ordered books from Amazon.com two weeks ago, and they haven't even put them on a truck headed in my direction...not that I'm frustrated by this or anything...)
But wait. It gets better: When I opened this wonderful package, I found not just the compact and gloss I'd lost in the puddle, but also the matching lip liner with the little brush on the end that you use to apply the gloss! Yippee! You don't have to know me long to know that a core part of my definition of happiness includes having the right lip gloss. Not many people mention this, but in my experience, it's essential for any sort of life success.
Not wanting to be outdone, I have a secret plan to thank T-McE and her awesome staff. You see...I recently saw the specs for my book cover (hee!) and while I can't give too much away until everything is finalized, the cover does feature a pair of glossy lips that (must) match one of the T-McE colors perfectly. I'm sure there's a fun tie-in to be made somewhere, and I'm gonna tie it in.
Wouldn't you buy a new book if there was a lip gloss included in the deal somehow? I can envision my book signings now...I'll read for three minutes, and then we'll all play with makeup! By the time I'm done, there will be an army of us nationwide, all decked out in Trish McEvoy lip gloss, ready for our close-up :)

Lip gloss AND a book? I'm totally in!
That's one of the coolest blogging stories I've heard, now if Adam Brody would just do likewise & call me already.
That is AMAZING! Lucky you!
And the lip brush too? Um, are you sure these surprises weren't asked for in one of your prayers? ;)
Ok that is totally awesome of T-McE. Can you please tell her the sad story of how I dropped my suitcase of $350million in a puddle last year and how upset I've been?
But to answer your last question - NO. Lip gloss is gross. I love you, Trish. But I will never kiss you if you are wearing lip gloss. I know this comes as a huge blow and must ruin tons of your life plans. But it's just the plain truth. The stuff is gloopy and icky. Now, if you wanted to include a really cool blusher that I can put on my cheeks, eyelids and lips, yes. I'd love that with your book. But honestly, I just want you to sign my copy with something that will show everyone how "in" I am with you. You know, some kind of "in" joke that is so "in" that even you and I won't get it.
Lip gloss. Seriously - my junior high memories of Kissing Potion make me rather nauseated. I remember the weird film it left IN my mouth. IN. Gack.
I would totally but a book, just for the lipgloss :)
How cool is that?! Wow! I am certainly won over and will be checking out her products. Does she have a website? ...I'll google her and find out. How very cool is that?!
Honestly, I can't wait to read your book, but if you're going to throw in lip gloss, I may have to pre-order. And how gracious is your new BFF? Guess whose lip gloss I'll be scouting out now? I like kind people.
Amy
I think you may be a marketing genius. And lip-gorgeous to boot! There truly is nothing like the perfect lip gloss, is there? But now I have to go google your *bud* - the other Trish. At the moment I am duly addicted to Lancome lipgloss. I feel a lipgloss 12 step program coming on.
I love people -- it's the little things.
She made MY day and I didn't even get any lip gloss out of the deal...but maybe I will when I buy your book, hmmm.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go write an extensive blog post about Loreal and the amazing "tiger lily" eye shadow color they discontinued.
What an amazing story! I'm a lip gloss junkie! I have an entire make-up bag of colors for every mood and outfit. The problem is that I have only come across a few in my lifetime that I truly adore. Now don't laugh but my absolute favorites are made by Hello Kitty. My daughter gets them in birthday treat bags from time to time and never used them. You would not believe how hard it is to find them. I've googled and searched for the Hello Kitty Lip Balm in Strawberry for a year now. I have to use them so sparingly. When people ask me about my lip gloss, I tell them "it's Hello Kitty" and they always have a smile on their faces.
What a fabulous story!!! I'm jealous! I wonder if there are any other makeup-making Laurels out there who can hook me up!
What a story! And I definitely appreciate your variation of a book reading/signing.
i would buy a book if it had anything attached...even candy. like one of those goofy cany necklaces...ot pop rings...or...
That is SO GREAT! What a fun story! Yayy for lip gloss. That would have made my entire LIFE!
That is SO awesome! What an amazing, thoughtful thing to do.
Can't wait to see the cover!!
How COOL! Lucky you. You sound like you're going to have really fun book signings. Can you come to New Zealand for some?
How cool and sweet and amazing is that? I hope Amazon is reading all this. And I have to agree with your awesome tie-in idea--that would be so quirky and different and FUN!
I think you should leave a Trish McEvoy lipgloss smooch under every signature in every book you sign. Pucker up!
Man, you have all the luck.
