Hopping to make a difference

This has had me giggling all week:

My niece, confident and splendid at the age of four, is undertaking her first project to make the world (which revolves, you understand, in a tight circle around her) a better place: she and the rest of her pre-school class are holding a Hop-a-thon to raise money for charity.

A Hop-a-thon!

Does anyone else think this is perhaps the cutest planetary improvement idea ever? How much more fun would Earth Day be with some hopping involved? I have been cracking up for days at the idea of my beloved niece and her classmates (all fortified with copious amounts of sugar, no doubt) hoping with all their little hearts while their teachers cheer them on by yelling cha-ching! to acknowledge the nickels and dimes and quarters they're earning for their cause.

There have to be more ideas like this...what else could we do to make a-thons more creative and fun? (And let's stick to G-rated options, in case above-mentioned niece is reading :) )

For the kiddies, we could have nap-a-thons. The longer the kids sleep / stay quiet, the more money they raise for charity. I'm sure all the moms would love that!

My puppy and his doggy pals could hold a chew-a-thon!

I think whistle-a-thons would be very successful.:)

Since I'm not a baton twirler, I'm not sure if a twirl-a-thon would work or not? What do you think? I guess that could also include twirling around in a circle...but that one wouldn't last very long...hahaha

i wonder if a dance-a-thon would be too exhausting...and disruptive. :)

What a cute idea!! I was thinking dance-a-thon, too. Or maybe a lollipop-a-thon. Eat lollipops all day. :)

What a cute idea! Jump rope-a-thon? Kind of like hop-a-thon, but different!

When the little kids including my nephews were doing the program in church, the music leader said he'd kiss a live frog if they did a good job. It's no hopathon.

Too cute!!! And I imagine all the parents are thrilled that their kids will come home nice and ready for a nap/bed ... Unless they do do the sugar high bit... Then it could get all kinds of messy! ;)

That is very, very cute.

Trish, if your niece -- at age four -- might be reading this post, I'm sure she has her own ideas. ;)

Aww I remember doing this in kindergarten. It was a hop-a-thon jumprope contest. Soo much fun :)

I could be up for a Nap-A-Thon. I'm really good at sleeping and would be willing to get paid/raise money for charity to do it. :-)

Haha, that's so cute! I would totally take part in a procastinate-a-thon.

I think Congress should have made Bush finance the war this way.

What about a lick-a-thon wherein everyone sees how many licks it takes to get to the center of their Tootsie Roll Pops? Or a plant-a-thon where the kids go to nursing homes, hospitals, etc. and plant bulbs, seeds, etc. (This one would even work for Arbor Day.)

Two of my children just participated in a Jump-a-thon. For real.

Personally, I'm interested in a licorice-a-thon. I would so win!!!

If I woke up my oldest to ask him, I'm sure he would come up with something to do with Pokemon. And the youngest would somehow involve puppies.
