Blog friend and author Jen Miller interviewed me about the latest round of fake memoirs (or fakoirs, as one member of my writing loop calls them) at her fabulous book blog. I have so many thoughts on this topic. I totally agree with what you say at the end - that if a writer has a strong voice, writing about the ordinary experience is no problem.

Loved the interview. I also have a (humorous travel) memoir coming out and just finished the acknowledgements where I said, "With all the controversy surrounding memoir these days, if doubt ever arises about the veracity of what is contained in these pages, rest assured I can provide appropriate documentation, including but not limited to: emergency room charts, police records and AAA bills."

I like how you phrased this: "This book is a collection of my memories and thus may differ from yours." I just did a guest post on my friend's blog and I mentioned how we first met. He reminded me that we'd actually met previously but I had completely forgotten. We had two completely different memories and therefore two completely different stories but it wasn't because I fabricated anything - it was legitimately my own recollection of the events!
