The secret life of girls
I just read this provocative article by social commentator/controversial boat-rocker Caitlin Flanagan. It made me fall in love with being a girl all over again. I haven't read the Twilight series yet, and probably won't get to it for awhile (I'm still recovering from last weekend's Lord of the Rings marathon, and I just spilled oatmeal on my computer. It hardened like a rock and will likely take me the rest of the day to clean off...) But this article makes me see why my friend, Up With People Girl loved these stories. It's not so much that we're curious about vampires; it's that we're curious about love.

I tried to like Twilight but I just couldn't get into the book.
I don't have a long enough attention span at the moment to get through that whole article (what I read I liked), but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the whole Twilight series. My 14 year-old has read each of the books at least three times. Not all of her friends are as obsessed, but they're fans. They're even divided up into "Team Edward" and "Team Jacob." (My daughter and I are team Edward all the way, not that we don't love Jacob.) But one word of warning, Trish: DON'T see the movie. Parts were really well done but they did a TERRIBLE job of showing the connection between Bella and Edward, which is the whole point of the series. Oh, and even though they're long books, they're really very quick reads. Getting through Twilight would be much faster than the Lord of the Rings marathon.
