We're hosting a blizzard today, here in New England. With seven inches of snow and counting, I suspect there will be many opportunities for the locals to demonstrate that chivalry I was bragging about last week.
On the writing front, I had my very first official book interview this morning! It was so much fun, and kind of surreal, too. I'm still struggling to hone in on the exact right answers to questions about why I wrote this book, and what I hope readers will get from it. There just doesn't seem to be a savvy, sophisticated way of saying, "I want to meet all the women out there who are feeling hopeless about life and love, give them a giant hug, and say, 'Don't give up! God's got more for you!!!'"
But between you and me, Blogger friends, that's the answer :)
(And for those of you who aren't all that fond of giant hugs from authors you've never met, feel free to view my book as a cordial--albeit enthusiastic--handshake, with similar words of encouragement.)

Aww congrats on your first author interview. That is fabulous!!
I'm definitely going to check your book out...yay!
Hope you're enjoying the blizzard :)
Congrats on the interview. sounds very exciting! Great blog by the way, I surfed in from This Fish. Glad I found you!
I'm going to view your book as a hug. Non-huggers are WEIRD.
And yay for your first book interview!
How about a high five? I'd take a high five.
Hey hey. Congrats on the interview. Since I write about books for magazines, I'm usually the first person to interview an author -- we're generally understanding folk. In fact, first time authors are my favorite intervieews :-)
I'm having MY first book related thing on Wednesday -- a picture to go along with an article I'm writing. It's going to be about 30 degrees and I'm supposed to look springy. Outside. At least NJ didn't get your snow!

Use the first interview to develop talking points for yourself. You want to ensure that you're saying the same thing for each opportunity. The key with the media is that you want to be sure to pound home three key messages. Everything you say should go back to those messages. Keep the audience of the publication in mind. You want to say things that they want to hear that will entice them to buy/read the book. Last bit of advice, never go off the record with a reporter. It'll only lead to somewhere that you don't want to go. I know (and as you know), I'm an ex-reporter turned PR guy.
You're so famous! (Or soon to be)
Send a little of that snow down our way. I'm sick of this non-winter wonderland.
Oooh, your first author interview!!! How exciting.
We are up to our ears in snow, too. I'm SO glad we got a new snowblower...
Congrats on the interview! So exciting!
First, congratulations to your Patriots who are more than ready to take on the embattled Chargers in the snow...perhaps? ;)
And I love your idea of a hug, Trish, along with a reassuring pat on the back.
Congratulations on your first book interview! I'll have to check out the book. I love snow, but we don't get enough snow here in DC. We probably won't get any this year. But I guess I should be careful what I ask for.
Congratulations - that's great!
How exciting about the interview! And that sounds like a good answer to me! :)
I'll take the hug, thankyouverymuch!
xox
yay! congrats! I can't wait to read it and say to all my friends that I totally know the author. Know as in the "I read her blog sense" of course :)
interview!! did you insist that they not bring up certain subjects like clay aiken?!
First, thanks for stopping by and commenting on the YOG blog ...second, CONGRATS on the book publishing gig and the review..*smiling*
Wow...the New Year looks like it's gonna be a great one for you! Congrats and Write on!
Did you actually speak to the person? I've done several "interviews" via email lately. I'm beginning to think that everyone is like me and prefers email to the phone.
