Some things are just fun to say

We were hanging out with friends last night and couldn't help noticing that our friend Dan walked in with a bit of a gimp. Concerned, we asked if he was okay. "I'm fine," he assured us with a sheepish grin. "I've been playing a little too much Wii..."

Have you guys heard of Wii? I had, but only in the vaguest sort of way (sort of like how I've heard that that raising llamas is now a popular and lucrative pastime, and that our cars may soon run on corn).

Dan glowed as he told us about his new toy. "I played tennis for an hour yesterday" he said. "I made it to the pro level!" He was rubbing his arm as he told us; apparently he was nursing a Wii injury. "Tennis pros get tennis elbow," we acknowledged. "But not usually in their living rooms..."

This Wii thing had me laughing all night. First of all, it's just fun to say. And second, it makes me wonder why on earth I've been toiling away with the plasticine girls on The Firm video (watching them smile at me with those bizarre life is fitness faces as they heft dumbells to the sound of low-grade porn music) when I could be using that same time and space to become a tennis pro? What if my true athletic talent is household bowling?

I'm quite relieved to know that it's not to late for me to become a professional athlete...there just might be a Nike endorsement deal in my future :)

What sport would you play, if Wii was in your living room?

I have The Firm videos! I swear by them, when I actually do them a few times a week.

And that Wii is no joke; I played it ONCE, for maybe a grand total of 4 minutes, and the next day the left side of my bum was sore. We were playing the bowling game. I guess I never realized how much I favor the left-leg crouch/right-leg extension when I release the bowling ball. (Or when I pretend to.)

The Wii is awesome and addictive. I love the bowling, but AS and his roommates play golf the most. I've never liked video games before--I just glaze over and can't concentrate on them--but Wii I can get behind!

What sport would I try on the wii? Skydiving.

Heli-skiing... as in being dropped from a helicopter onto a mountain top and ski down to the bottom. I'm crazy like that. ;)

Oh, that sounds like so much fun. I want to play the tennis or boxing. I love playing those boxing games at the arcades at the beach.

WE are TOTALLY getting a Nintendo WII this fall!

I just learned about Wii myself, and my husband just managed to persuade me that it's exactly what our sons should get for Christmas. I seriously doubt tennis elbow is in my future...but maybe some other sporting injury...

I got tennis elbow AND golfer's elbow simultaneously back when I was ten-keying like a maniac at work. Ouch.

I need to check out this Wii though. I'm not into video games at all, but that sounds awesome! Bring on the bowling!

Nick has been wanting a Wii forever, but I keep reminding him that he has a perfectly fine and working Playstation.

Although I do The Firm videos sometimes too, and the thought of being able to get rid of them and have a more entertaining workout is looking pretty good.

Even though other game makers might have better visual effects, my sister and her husband have a set of Wii that they only turn on for parties and reunions, and it's a great ice-breaker! :)

I think I'd do skiing...something my body is too old and too stiff to do in real life, but something I used to enjoy a lot.

I've never heard of The Firm videos, but it looks like they might help out with the old and stiff parts, so I'm going to check it out.

I can see how people would pull muscles when they are whipping the remotes around hard enough to do this stuff:

Apparently those wrist straps aren't very strong... TV'c look out!

I would probably play basketball :)

I've never played before, but I've heard of it. The idea of sports injuries from Wii though is hilarious!

I would probably be a tennis star too!

Ah, I played it for about 30 minutes, and my arms were aching the next day (and that was only the bowling game!)

Do they have a Wii where you can lay on a raft in the blue water of a tropical paradise?

That's what I'd do.

Do you think Wii has a game where you get to use your enemies like a blow-up punching clown?

Tennis for sure. I have no idea what other sports Wii does (and you're right, hilarious name), but next on the list - skiing. Or how about zorbing?

I played Wii two weeks ago! Prior to that I think the last video game I'd played was either Pong or Space Invaders. I played Wii bowling and, it was VERY cool. But not hundreds of dollars cool. We were visiting our old neighborhood way out in Ohio and our friends with two boys had the Wii thingy.
